World and field bosses in Black Desert are among the most anticipated events in the game. In this guide, you’ll learn when and where bosses spawn, as well as how to avoid missing a boss while in-game.
How to find out where the boss spawns
To find out where a boss spawns in BDO, open the world map and look at the boss icons. The icons show the boss’s spawn location.
World and field bosses do not spawn on the Olivia and Arsha servers.
When a boss spawns, a notification appears in the center of the channel screen.
World bosses
World bosses appear in the world of Black Desert according to the following schedule (world bosses bdo respawn, bdo boss timer) at a clearly defined time.

Press F1 – Help – the schedule is published in the Bosses section.
Please note that both normal and enhanced world bosses appear in BDO.
Accordingly, players kill simple bosses very quickly.
But the strengthened world bosses take a little longer to defeat, and you can always catch them if you’re a little late.
How to avoid missing a world boss while in the game
You can enable a boss alert in the game. This is a kind of boss alarm that will notify you of an approaching boss before they actually appear.
You can set up a notification to remind you when World Bosses are about to appear. Go to the main menu (Esc) > Adventure (F5) > Boss Notification.
A menu will then appear where you can:
- enable notification appearance;
- set the message display time to 5, 15, or 30 minutes before the boss appears.;
- enable the leave messages feature so you don’t miss it.
Notifications will appear in the lower right corner, and you can turn them off after a while.
How to figure out which world boss to beat first
If you want to earn more rewards and make it to all the bosses, assign an additional character to each boss. Switching between characters will take less time than trying to reach each boss individually.
Find out which boss usually starts the fight in your version of the game. You can ask in world chat; helpful players will usually let you know right away.
Field Bosses
There are currently 6 field bosses in the game.
Each field boss has its own spawn location, which is indicated by an icon on the world map.
Field bosses such as:
- Red Nose,
- Dastard Bheg,
- Dim Tree Spirit,
- Giant Mudster,
- Katzvariak
appear on average once a day on random servers.
- Black Shadow is a field boss, it appears in a different way compared to the other ones. Its initial spawn location and time are fixed, and it will appear once per week at the following times.

From November 9, 2022, after defeating some field bosses, new ones are created in the following order:
Dastard Bheg (Balenos Forest, Balenos) → Red Nose (Agris Steppe, Balenos) → Dim Tree Spirit (Forest of Seclusion, Balenos)
Each Field Boss appears approx. 3 min after the previous boss has been defeated
Giant Mudster (Glish Ruins, Serendia) → Katzvariak (Tshira Ruins, Drieghan)
Changed so Katzvariak of Tshira Ruins appears 5 min after defeating the Giant Mudster.
Death and fines
From December 19, 2024, death penalties (crystal destruction and EXP decrease) are not applied when dying to World Bosses and Field Bosses.
