Merv’s Silver Needle and Knots

On September 3, 2026, Merv’s Silver Needle and Knots were added to Black Desert; these items are required to extract useful functions from functional outfit sets.

With their help, you can “extract” bonuses (such as life EXP, Cooking Time, stealth, and other effects) from old outfits.

Merv’s Silver Needle extracts effects from functional costumes, and Knots that grant those effects.

Existing functional Pearl costumes can be processed into Knots with their respective effects

Step-by-step guide:

1. Purchase the Merv’s Silver Needle and combine it with a functional outfit via the Processing (L) – Manufacture. In this way, you will obtain the corresponding knot.

The knot will appear in your Premium Inventory

Your functional outfit will remain intact in the Premium Inventory!

2. Equip the knot in the appropriate section of the Life Skill gear interface (I). Simply right-click the knot, and it will automatically move to the correct Life Skill gear slot

3. To activate the knot, obtain a Black Spirit’s Claw

Combine to obtain a Black Spirit’s Claw Collect and arrange 3 Black Spirit’s Claw Piece into a [-] shape, which drops from Valencia monsters and is sold on the Central Market.

The Black Spirit’s Claw must be in the Enhancement Inventory.

Right-click the Black Spirit’s Claw to open the Black Spirit Enhancement window (/).

Select the specific premium outfit (armor) from your Premium Inventory on the right, select the Black Spirit’s Claw on the left, and click “Enhance.”

The enhancement has a 100% success rate. No failstacks are required.

4. Equip the outfit enhanced with the Black Spirit’s Claw

5. The knot effect is now active.

Since Life Skill gear functions passively (meaning you do not need to manually select it – simply placing it in the appropriate slot is sufficient), the knot effect will apply to any character wearing a premium outfit enhanced with a Black Spirit’s Claw.

Please note!

• Functional Pearl costumes obtained through Processing have the same wear effects as regular Pearl outfits and count toward Pearl outfit set effects.
  • Discovery Radius +10m
  • Death Penalty Resistance +10%
  • Amity +10%
  • Jump Height +0.5m
• The Bear Necessities Costume’s Attack/Casting Speed +2 cannot be extracted with Merv’s Silver Needle.
• The effects of the Bear Necessities Hat and Bear Necessities Knot do not stack.
• The effects of the Venia Riding Hat and Venia Knot do not stack.
• Merv’s Tailoring Tool cannot be used on functional costumes already processed with Merv’s Silver Needle.
• Merv’s Silver Needle and Knots are stored in the Pearl Inventory. 
• Merv’s Silver Needle and Knots can be exchanged with an Old Moon Manager for Gold Bar 100G.
