Gamescom 2026 has become one of the biggest gaming events of the year. The main announcements began with Geoff Keighley’s two-hour Opening Night Live on August 25, followed by Xbox presentations, the Future Games Show and a huge number of demos and reveals from the show floor in Cologne.
The event set a new record with more than 1,700 exhibitors. Among the biggest games featured at Gamescom were The Witcher 3, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, Metro 2039, Control Resonant, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake and many more.
The Biggest Gamescom 2026 Announcements
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered
One of the biggest surprises of Gamescom was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered.
CD Projekt RED unexpectedly revealed a new version of its legendary RPG featuring improved visuals, enhanced combat, movement and animations, ray tracing and cross-platform mod support. Both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine will be included.
The remaster will be available as a free upgrade for existing owners of The Witcher 3, with the release scheduled for September 29, 2026.
The Witcher 3 — Songs of the Past
CD Projekt RED also revealed Songs of the Past, a full new expansion for The Witcher 3.
Geralt will return to the Path once again, while the story appears to lay groundwork for future events in The Witcher 4. The expansion is planned for 2027.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Another major Gamescom highlight was Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the modern Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi appeared on stage to introduce a new trailer focused on the gigantic Weapons — ancient guardians of the planet. The footage also showed new gameplay and large-scale battles.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for 2027.
Gears of War: E-Day
Microsoft and The Coalition brought a new story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day to Gamescom.
The game takes place during Emergence Day, the catastrophe that occurred 14 years before the original Gears of War. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago return as the central characters.
The game launches on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Nodusfall
HoYoverse revealed a completely new game called Nodusfall.
It is a cooperative fantasy action game with a distinctive visual style and large-scale battles against giant creatures. The release date has not yet been announced.
Ananta
NetEase showed a new trailer for Ananta, a huge open-world urban action RPG that has already been nicknamed “anime GTA” by the community.
Players will explore a modern city, fight enemies, interact with the environment and take part in a wide variety of open-world activities.
The game is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2027.
Metro 2039
Metro fans finally received a major new reveal: Metro 2039, the next mainline entry in the franchise.
The Gamescom trailer showed the game’s dark atmosphere, combat and post-apocalyptic world. The game is currently scheduled for February 2027.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics
Ubisoft revealed Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, a surprising new direction for the franchise.
Instead of a traditional tactical shooter, the game is a turn-based strategy title featuring familiar Rainbow Six operators and single-player tactical missions.
The release is planned for 2027.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake
Strategy fans received one of the most exciting announcements of Gamescom: Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake.
Ubisoft is preparing a full remake of the classic 1999 strategy game, including its two original expansions.
The remake is scheduled for 2027.
Tides of Annihilation
Tides of Annihilation received a spectacular new trailer at Gamescom.
The game combines dark fantasy, Arthurian mythology and fast-paced action combat. The new footage showed Gwendolyn commanding knights, fighting gigantic enemies and even riding a dragon.
The release date has not yet been announced.
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons
The Dungeons & Dragons universe is getting a new action game called Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons.
Gamescom featured more than eight minutes of gameplay, showing protagonist Kaatri gaining access to forbidden magic and becoming involved in a dangerous adventure.
The game is planned for 2027.
Mega Man: Dual Override
Capcom revealed Mega Man: Dual Override, a new entry in the long-running franchise.
The Gamescom trailer introduced the first Robot Master, Twinkle Girl, and teased the return of Proto Man.
The game is scheduled for 2027.
Rayman Legends Retold
Ubisoft is also bringing back Rayman with Rayman Legends Retold.
The game features redesigned visuals, new story elements, a new realm, musical stages and four-player local co-op. Kung Foot is also returning in an expanded form.
The game launches on October 1, 2026.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros
Fans of Game of Thrones finally received a proper gameplay look at Game of Thrones: War for Westeros.
The real-time strategy game allows players to control different factions of Westeros, with the Gamescom footage showing units, battles and large-scale combat.
The game is planned for 2027.
DUST: Origins
DUST: Origins is a new isometric horror shooter from Airship Syndicate.
The game takes place aboard a doomed orbital prison and combines science fiction, horror and fast-paced combat.
The release date is currently unknown.
Gravhounds
Gravhounds is one of the stranger cooperative games revealed during Gamescom 2026.
Four players control anthropomorphic dogs searching for a way home. Teams must defend bases, collect resources and even use gravity itself as a weapon.
Early Access begins on November 2, 2026.
LEGO Skylines
One of the most unexpected announcements was LEGO Skylines, a city-building game set in the LEGO universe.
The project is being developed by former Cities: Skylines II developers. Players will be able to build and expand their own LEGO cities.
A release date has not yet been announced.
Path of Exile 2 Finally Gets Its Full Release Date
One of the most important announcements for ARPG fans was the release date for Path of Exile 2 version 1.0.
After almost two years in Early Access, the game will officially launch on December 11, 2026. Grinding Gear Games also showed new content, including the Duelist class and new weapons.
The game will remain free-to-play.
Ontos — A New Game From the Creators of SOMA
Frictional Games showed its new project Ontos, a horror game that continues the studio’s tradition of psychological horror established by SOMA and Amnesia.
The first gameplay footage showcased exploration, puzzles and the unsettling atmosphere the studio is known for.
The game is planned for 2027.
Turok: Origins
Another classic franchise is returning with Turok: Origins.
This new action shooter supports three-player co-op and features dinosaurs, firefights and a much larger-scale interpretation of the Turok universe.
The game is planned for spring 2027.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour
SEGA continues its revival of classic franchises with Crazy Taxi: World Tour.
The latest Gamescom trailer provided the first look at multiplayer gameplay.

Mewgenics Comes to Consoles
After launching on PC earlier this year, Mewgenics is heading to consoles.
The unusual tactical RPG about breeding and developing combat cats will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 8, 2026.
Silent Hill: Townfall
Konami brought new footage of Silent Hill: Townfall to Gamescom.
The game is being developed as a first-person horror experience, while the latest trailer focused on its cast and characters.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Launches in September
The Blood of Dawnwalker received a new launch trailer at Gamescom.
The dark fantasy RPG from Rebel Wolves launches on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game focuses heavily on player choice, vampire mythology and nonlinear storytelling.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Is Out Now
Another major release is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a prequel to the A Plague Tale series.
Set 15 years before Requiem, the game follows Sophia as she explores a mysterious island while trying to uncover the secrets surrounding her past.
The game launched on August 27, 2026.

The event also featured dozens of smaller and experimental projects, including:
- Lofsöng — an atmospheric adventure featuring a mysterious origami companion.
- No Law — a cyberpunk FPS planned for 2027.
- Like or Die — a team-based survival FPS featuring 16 streamers.
- Pony Island 2: Panda Circus — a bizarre new game from Inscryption creator Daniel Mullins, mixing 2D, 3D and live-action.
- There Are No Ghosts at the Grand — a surreal musical adventure involving a haunted English hotel and Lovecraftian supernatural elements.
- Showa American Story — a strange post-apocalyptic action game in which Japan has colonized the United States.
- Stage Tour — a Rock Band-inspired music game launching on December 10.
- Genigods: Nezha — an action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology.
- Exodus — a sci-fi RPG that received a new trailer featuring the unusual companion Salt.
- PUBG: DED.NET — a new FPS set in the PUBG universe with roguelite progression.
- Afterworld — a new strategy game from Paradox Interactive.
Gamescom also featured a new global trailer for Roco Kingdom, which is scheduled to enter closed beta on October 27.
Future Games Show and Xbox
Gamescom 2026 was much bigger than Opening Night Live. The Future Games Show on August 26 featured more than 30 Xbox-related announcements, including Worms Galactic Tactics, Greak 2: Alliance of the Storms, Serious Sam: Shatterverse, Neon Abyss 2, TANUKI: Pon’s Summer and Young Suns.
Worms Galactic Tactics will be a tactical spin-off of the famous series, while the developers also confirmed that a new mainline Worms game is in development.
Greak 2: Alliance of the Storms is a cooperative metroidvania coming in 2027.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse launches on August 31, 2026.
Neon Abyss 2 is targeting fall 2026 and will support up to four-player online co-op.
Gamescom 2026 — The Final Takeaway
Looking at Gamescom 2026 as a whole, three major trends stand out.
First, the industry is clearly embracing the return of classic franchises. The Witcher 3 Remastered, Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, Rayman Legends Retold, Mega Man: Dual Override and Turok: Origins all prove that publishers are willing to revisit their biggest names.
Second, Gamescom introduced several genuinely interesting new projects, including Nodusfall, Ananta, Metro 2039, Tides of Annihilation, DUST: Origins and LEGO Skylines.
Finally, the show delivered a surprisingly large number of concrete release dates. The coming months will bring The Blood of Dawnwalker, Silent Hill: Townfall, The Witcher 3 Remastered, Rayman Legends Retold and Gears of War: E-Day, while Path of Exile 2 will finally leave Early Access in December.
The biggest surprise of Gamescom 2026 may simply be the sheer number of projects that look capable of becoming major games in 2027. From Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Metro 2039 to ambitious new RPGs and cooperative adventures, the event has already given players plenty to look forward to.
Gamescom 2026 is still underway, but one thing is already clear: many of the biggest games of late 2026 and 2027 have now officially entered the spotlight.
