Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake has officially been revealed by Ubisoft during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The remake of the legendary 1999 turn-based strategy game is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft promises to preserve the core gameplay of the classic while rebuilding its visuals, technology and several features for modern platforms.
For many strategy fans, Heroes of Might and Magic III remains one of the defining games of its genre. Rather than simply releasing another HD version, Ubisoft is taking a much more ambitious approach. The new game is being rebuilt in the Snowdrop engine and transforms the familiar world of Erathia into a fully 3D environment.
A Completely Rebuilt 3D World
The biggest change in Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is undoubtedly its presentation. The game will feature 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, real-time weather and changing seasons.
The classic fixed isometric perspective is also being replaced by a freely controllable camera. Players will be able to explore the world from different angles and get a closer look at cities, armies and environments.
Despite the visual overhaul, Ubisoft says it does not want to reinvent Heroes III. The goal is to preserve the foundations that made the original such a beloved strategy game while making it easier for a new generation of players to experience.
Nine Classic Factions and Both Expansions
The remake will include all nine factions from the original game:
- Castle;
- Rampart;
- Tower;
- Inferno;
- Necropolis;
- Dungeon;
- Stronghold;
- Fortress;
- Conflux.
The complete campaign experience will also return. This means the remake includes the original The Restoration of Erathia, as well as the two expansions Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death.
The campaigns will be connected into a single story, with a new introductory prologue, epilogue and additional cinematic scenes. Ubisoft is therefore expanding the presentation of the classic adventure without removing its original content.
Online Multiplayer for Up to Eight Players
Multiplayer is another major part of Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake. The new version will support online matches with up to eight players.
The iconic Hot Seat mode will also return, allowing players to compete locally on the same machine. Ubisoft has additionally announced improved matchmaking and simultaneous turns.
For longtime fans, these features could be just as important as the graphical overhaul. Community maps and multiplayer have helped keep Heroes III alive for decades, so expanding these systems could significantly extend the remake’s lifespan.
Community Maps and Creation Tools
Ubisoft is also paying special attention to the Heroes III community. Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake will support thousands of maps and campaigns created by players over the past 25 years.
The game will also include updated editing tools and an in-game UGC hub. Players will be able to discover, download and share community-created content, potentially giving the remake a huge library of additional content after launch.
Nine Minutes of Gameplay Revealed
Ubisoft followed the announcement with a substantial gameplay overview. On August 26, the publisher released almost nine minutes of footage showing world exploration, cities, hero management, the interface and strategic battles.
The footage provides a much better look at how dramatically the remake differs from the original visually. At the same time, the familiar gameplay loop remains recognizable: explore the map, collect resources, capture locations, develop cities, level up heroes and fight turn-based battles.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake Release Date
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is currently planned for 2027. The game will be released on PC through Steam and the Ubisoft Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft has not announced an exact release date yet.
The game is already available to wishlist on Steam, and Ubisoft has confirmed that it will also be included with Ubisoft+.
The remake is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious attempts to bring a classic strategy game to a modern audience. The biggest question now is whether Ubisoft can preserve the unique atmosphere and gameplay balance that made Heroes III legendary while successfully rebuilding it for a new generation. The first gameplay footage looks promising, but there is still plenty to learn before the 2027 release.
