Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally has a confirmed release date. The third and final chapter of the modern Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will launch on April 8, 2027, simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Square Enix revealed the date during the September PlayStation State of Play, alongside a new trailer and an extended gameplay presentation.

Until recently, Square Enix had only confirmed a Spring 2027 release window. That has now changed. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027.
The game is the third and final entry in the remake project that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Unlike the earlier PlayStation-focused releases, Revelation will launch simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. PC players will be able to find the game through Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox PC.
The simultaneous PC release is particularly notable, as players will not have to wait for a later port to experience the conclusion of the trilogy.
New Final Fantasy VII Revelation trailer
Square Enix has already shown several trailers for the upcoming game. After the first reveal during Summer Game Fest, the developer presented another major trailer at Gamescom 2026 and later followed it with a release-date trailer during State of Play.
The footage shows a world facing an unprecedented crisis. One of the biggest threats comes from the gigantic Weapons, legendary creatures that were also among the most memorable enemies in the original Final Fantasy VII.
The Gamescom trailer showcased several of them, including Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon. It also offered new footage of the Highwind airship, Vincent Valentine and the game’s expanded world.
Exploring the world with the Highwind
One of the biggest features of Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be its large-scale world exploration.
Players will be able to travel across the planet aboard the iconic Highwind airship. Square Enix has shown how the airship can be used to move between different regions, making the world feel considerably larger than in the previous games.
Chocobos will also play an important role in exploration. Piko, the party’s chocobo companion, can be used as a mount and will also assist during combat. As the party progresses, Piko will gain additional abilities that expand both traversal and combat options.
The developers are also adding new environmental interactions and exploration mechanics, suggesting that traveling through the world will be more than simply moving from one objective to another.
The return of the Weapons
The Weapons are expected to be some of the most spectacular encounters in Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
In the original Final Fantasy VII, these enormous creatures were among the game’s most dangerous optional challenges. The remake project is giving them a major visual and gameplay overhaul.
The latest trailers have already revealed several of the legendary creatures, while also showcasing new abilities, combat mechanics and large-scale battles.
The final chapter will also expand the playable cast. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind are set to become important parts of the adventure as the story continues beyond the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
The conclusion of the remake trilogy
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is designed to bring the modern remake trilogy to its conclusion, but Square Enix is not simply recreating the original game with modern graphics.
The developers are combining familiar locations and characters with a much larger world, modern combat mechanics and changes to the way the story unfolds. This means that even longtime fans of the original Final Fantasy VII can expect some surprises.
Square Enix has also announced additional story content. Premium editions and the Story Expansion Pass will include two DLC stories featuring Sephiroth and a separate story focused on Vincent and the Turks.
