For Gamescom 2026, expectations are particularly high because the summer showcase season is coming to an end. That makes Gamescom one of the last major opportunities for publishers to make a big impression before the busy fall release period.

However, not every game listed as a Gamescom highlight will necessarily receive a major segment during Opening Night Live. Some will instead be playable on the show floor or featured in other Gamescom broadcasts.
The Real Question: Surprise Announcements
This is where Gamescom 2026 could become particularly exciting.
Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live traditionally leaves room for surprises. Even when several major games are announced ahead of time, viewers still expect world premieres, unexpected trailers and projects that have not yet been officially revealed.
