Silent Hill: Townfall has received its most substantial gameplay showcase yet, with Konami releasing nearly 20 minutes of new footage from the upcoming survival horror game. The demonstration features exploration of St. Amelia, environmental puzzles, the mysterious CRTV device, the first monster encounters, and a disturbing trip into the Otherworld. The game is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, for PC and PlayStation 5.
Exploring the town of St. Amelia
One of the biggest highlights of the new footage is the extended look at St. Amelia itself. Unlike previous entries in the franchise, the game does not take place in the familiar American town of Silent Hill. Instead, players are taken to a fictional fishing village in Scotland.
The protagonist, Simon Ordell, must explore the deserted-looking settlement while trying to understand what happened to its inhabitants. The gameplay footage spends considerable time simply walking through streets, houses and other locations, examining objects and looking for clues.
This slower pace appears to be an important part of Silent Hill: Townfall. Rather than constantly pushing players into combat, the game encourages careful exploration and observation. The environment itself is expected to play a major role in telling the story.
The CRTV replaces the traditional Silent Hill radio
The CRTV is one of the most distinctive gameplay mechanics shown so far. Developed as an evolution of the iconic radio mechanic from earlier Silent Hill games, the handheld device gives Simon information that cannot always be found through normal exploration.
The CRTV can pick up signals, reveal clues, help locate threats and provide information connected to the story. Importantly, the new gameplay footage shows the device being used during ordinary exploration rather than only in scripted puzzle sequences.
The CRTV also fits perfectly into the game’s 1996 setting. Its analog aesthetic and distorted audiovisual signals reinforce the retro atmosphere that Screen Burn Interactive is building around St. Amelia.
Puzzles, monsters and the Otherworld
The extended gameplay finally provides a better look at Silent Hill: Townfall‘s puzzles. Simon has to search his surroundings, find useful objects, interpret clues and use information gathered through the CRTV to progress.
The footage also introduces the game’s monsters. One encounter demonstrates that fighting is not necessarily the best solution. Players can run away, hide or attempt to distract enemies instead. However, combat is still available, with both melee and ranged weapons appearing in the game.
The second half of the demonstration is particularly interesting because it takes Simon into the Otherworld. The familiar streets of St. Amelia transform into a much darker and more disturbing environment, dramatically changing the atmosphere and increasing the danger.
A major change for the Silent Hill formula
Perhaps the most important takeaway from the nearly 20-minute showcase is how much Silent Hill: Townfall is changing the established formula.
The game is played entirely from a first-person perspective, moves the story away from the traditional Silent Hill setting and introduces the CRTV as a major gameplay tool. At the same time, it retains many of the elements associated with the franchise: oppressive fog, psychological horror, disturbing creatures, mysterious characters and environmental storytelling.
Following the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f, Townfall looks like another attempt by Konami to push the franchise in a different direction without abandoning its core identity.
Players will not have to wait much longer to find out whether the experiment works. Silent Hill: Townfall is scheduled to release on September 24, 2026, for PC and PlayStation 5.
