Ubisoft Delays Several Major Games to 2028–2029

Ubisoft delays several major games to 2028–2029, confirming that a number of its biggest upcoming titles will now launch later than originally expected. The announcement came during the company’s first-quarter earnings report, where executives explained that the additional development time is intended to improve game quality and reduce the risk of problematic launches.

Although Ubisoft did not reveal which games have been delayed, the company stated that the affected projects belong to its largest franchises. Chief Financial Officer Frédérick Duguet said the decision is part of Ubisoft’s long-term strategy to deliver higher-quality experiences instead of rushing games to market. More information about the delayed titles is expected to be shared at a later date.

Why Ubisoft Is Delaying Its Biggest Projects

The French publisher has faced several challenges over the past few years. Multiple projects have been canceled, others have experienced repeated delays, and the company’s financial performance has remained under pressure. In response, Ubisoft launched a major restructuring plan, reducing costs, reorganizing development teams, and reviewing its release schedule.

Earlier this year, the company also confirmed the cancellation of several unannounced projects while postponing others to allow additional development time. Ubisoft believes this approach will help avoid the technical issues and disappointing launches that have affected several AAA games across the industry in recent years.

What Players Can Expect

Despite the delays, Ubisoft still plans to release several titles during the current fiscal year. Among the confirmed releases are Rayman Legends Retold and Just Dance: Decades of Hits. The publisher also reported that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced performed above expectations during its first two weeks on sale.

However, the company’s strongest lineup is now expected to arrive during the 2028–2029 fiscal years. Ubisoft has previously indicated that this period will include new entries from some of its most valuable franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon.

A Growing Trend Across the Gaming Industry

The fact that Ubisoft delays several major games to 2028–2029 reflects a broader trend within the video game industry. More publishers are choosing to postpone releases rather than launch unfinished products that could damage both sales and player trust.

While longer development cycles may disappoint fans waiting for new installments, many players now prefer polished releases over buggy launches that require months of post-release fixes. If Ubisoft’s strategy results in higher-quality games, the additional wait could ultimately benefit both the company and its audience.
