Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has received a new official campaign trailer, revealing more details about the game’s upcoming story. The trailer debuted on September 17 during Tokyo Game Show and gives players a closer look at the darker conflicts surrounding Captain John Price, his former allies, the invasion of South Korea, and a mysterious weapon that could threaten the global balance of power.
Infinity Ward is building the campaign around several interconnected storylines. One of the most important follows Captain Price, who is now operating outside official channels after the events of the previous game. Following the assassination of General Shepherd, Task Force 141 has been disbanded, while Ghost and Gaz are ordered to track down their former commander.
Price becomes a target
The conflict between Price and his former allies is one of the central elements of Modern Warfare 4. Ghost and Gaz are now tasked with finding Price, while questions are raised about how far their former captain is willing to go to achieve his goals.
Price is not completely alone, however. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, he is forced to work with unexpected allies. One of them is Valeria Garza, also known as El Sin Nombre, the leader of the Las Almas cartel.
Valeria was previously an enemy of the protagonists, but the new global threat creates a situation in which former rivals may have to put their differences aside.
The storyline continues one of the major themes of the recent Modern Warfare games: the conflict between following official orders and taking matters into your own hands when the stakes become too high.
War erupts in South Korea
At the same time, Modern Warfare 4 introduces a large-scale military conflict on the Korean Peninsula. According to Activision’s official campaign details, North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea.
Players will experience part of the campaign through the perspective of South Korean soldiers, including Private Park Hyun Jun and his squad. They are forced into combat as the conflict spreads across the region, with South Korean and U.S. forces fighting to stop the invasion.
The Korean storyline significantly expands the scale of the campaign. While Price’s story focuses on a personal conflict and an off-the-books hunt, the events in Korea develop into a much larger international crisis.
A mysterious weapon and the Archer
Another major element revealed in the trailer is a mysterious weapon being transported to an enemy known as the Archer.
Kate Laswell is trying to determine what the weapon is capable of and why it is so important. If it reaches the Archer, the consequences could extend far beyond the immediate conflict in Korea.
This creates a connection between the campaign’s different storylines: Price’s personal war, the conflict between former Task Force 141 members, the invasion of South Korea, and the race to prevent a potentially catastrophic weapon from falling into enemy hands.
Modern Warfare 4 release date
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who digitally pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition will receive Campaign Early Access starting October 16.
The new trailer suggests that Infinity Ward is putting significant emphasis on both large-scale warfare and character-driven conflicts. With Price being hunted by his former allies while a new war unfolds in Korea, the campaign is shaping up around several connected threats.
Modern Warfare 4 will continue the current Modern Warfare storyline with a campaign that moves between personal revenge, international warfare, uneasy alliances, and a weapon capable of changing the balance of power.
