World of Warcraft: Forever – Blizzard’s Official Classic+

World of Warcraft: Forever is finally real. During BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard officially revealed the new version of its legendary MMORPG that players have been calling Classic+ for years. However, instead of simply recreating Vanilla World of Warcraft, Blizzard is taking a different approach: the game will preserve the foundations of classic Azeroth while introducing new stories, zones, dungeons, raids and gameplay systems.

A New Path for Classic Azeroth

World of Warcraft: Forever will become the third major World of Warcraft experience alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic. The game returns players to the era of the original World of Warcraft, but its story will follow an alternate path.

The story takes place after the events of Warcraft III: Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. The level cap will remain at 60, while the world will continue to grow through future updates, new stories and additional gameplay content.

Blizzard describes Forever as a permanent experience rather than a temporary season or another version of Classic. The goal is to preserve the philosophy that made Vanilla WoW special.

There will be no flying mounts or level scaling, while exploration, leveling, preparation, group activities and social interaction will remain important parts of the experience.

New Zones and More Than 1,000 Quests

One of the biggest differences between Forever and traditional Classic is the expansion of Azeroth itself.

Blizzard is opening up areas that were previously unexplored or only hinted at in the original game. New regions include Mount Hyjal, Riverglades, Shen’dralas and Zephras Isle, with each offering new stories and adventures.

Players will receive more than 1,000 new quests, expanding the journey from level 1 to 60. Blizzard is also emphasizing smaller, local stories rather than making every adventure about saving the entire world.

The idea is to make Azeroth feel large and mysterious again, encouraging players to explore instead of simply following the most efficient path to the endgame.

Nine New Dungeons and Two Raids

World of Warcraft: Forever will launch with nine new dungeons, many of which are connected to locations that have long existed in the Warcraft universe but never received their own major adventures.

Among them are Ruins of Lordaeron, Hall of Thanes, Drowned City, Krol’dok Stronghold, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper’s Terrace.

Raid players will also have two new challenges to tackle: Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit. Barrow Deeps is designed as a 10-player raid, while Hyjal Summit will feature 20-player encounters.

The new endgame content will include new gear sets and powerful rewards, giving players reasons to continue exploring the world beyond the leveling experience.

PvP will also receive new content in the form of the Darkspear Islands battleground, designed for 15 versus 15 players.

Meet the Skyborne

Another major addition is the new playable Skyborne race.

The Skyborne are closely connected to Zephras Isle, which serves as their unique starting area and introduces players to their story. Players will be able to choose between the Alliance and Horde when creating a Skyborne character.

The race will feature unique racial abilities, customization options and special druid forms. Certain class options will also depend on the faction chosen by the player.

Blizzard is clearly trying to integrate the Skyborne into the classic Warcraft aesthetic rather than making them feel like a completely separate fantasy race.

The Classic+ Players Have Been Waiting For

The most important aspect of World of Warcraft: Forever may be its philosophy.

Rather than endlessly recreating content players have already experienced, Blizzard is exploring an alternative question: what could the original World of Warcraft have become if its story had continued in a different direction?

That makes Forever much closer to the traditional idea of Classic+ than previous Classic releases. It is not simply a trip back to Vanilla. It is an alternative continuation of it.

World of Warcraft: Forever will launch globally on November 4, 2026, while the beta begins on September 17. Access to the game will be included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.

Blizzard also plans to continue expanding Forever after launch with additional raids, dungeons, PvP content, world activities and new quests.

After years of speculation, Blizzard has finally delivered an official answer to the Classic+ question. World of Warcraft: Forever is not just about returning to the past — it is about discovering what classic Azeroth could have become if its story had taken a different path.
